G. J. Meeks, 89 of Fitzgerald, died Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at the Irwin County Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Thursday, December 10, 2009 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert McDearmid officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Meeks was born February 1, 1920 in Coffee County to the late George J. Meeks and the late Winny Idell Kirkland Cooper. He lived in Fitzgerald most of his life and was a member of Westside Baptist Church. Mr. Meeks was retired co-owner of Ben Hill Auto Parts and a former employee of Boeing Air Craft Corporation in California. He served in the United States Army during World War II, was an avid fisherman and was a Mason for 59 years.
Mr. Meeks is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Annette & John David Roberts of Fitzgerald; grandchildren, Josh & Faith McClelland, Denise Roberts and Kim & Jeff Youngblood all of Fitzgerald, 8 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; sister, Gretelle Shaw of Haines City, FL. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sallie Bowen Meeks, 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
