Dorothy Lee Carter of Gatesville died Thursday, May 24.
She was 66.
Services were held Monday, May 28 at Sweet Home Baptist
Church with Rev. Willie Clarke officiating. Burial followed at
Oak Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Carter was born February 24, 1924 in Gatesville.
She was the daughter of the late Randle and Rosa Lee Howard.
As an infant, her family moved to Mexico City, Mexico where
she spent most of her youth, before returning to Gatesville at the age of 14.
She was a graduate of T.M. Terrell High School
in Fort Worth.
She married James C. Carroll and later married Robert Carter in 1949.
Mr. Carter preceded her in death in July of 1985.
She worked for the Gatesville State School for Boys where
she retired from in 1979. She was a member of Sweet Home
Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years.
Survivors include; two sons, James C. Carroll II of Waco
and Howard Lee Carroll of Gatesville; one brother, Leroy
Howard of Fort Worth; one sister, Margarete Howard of Fort
Worth; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family wishes memorials be made to the Children's Leukemia Foundation.
Pallbearers were Joe Ward Manning, Bobby Cole, William
Otis Griffin, U.S. Ware, Raymond Cole and Harry Patterson
