Gene was born in Lexington, Dawson, Nebraska March 16, 1902 to Paul and Isabelle "Belle" Gunn Simmons. He grew up on the family farm working beside his dad when not in school. Gene had always wanted to be a Lawyer, but his Dad wanted him to stay on the farm so that is what he did after finishing school. His mother Belle passed in 1929 so it was just he and his father doing for themselves.

He married Cleo Nadine Peterson March 5, 1939. They moved to the farm with his Dad about 6 months after the marriage and in Nov of 1940 their only child was born.

After his father's death in 1950 he continued farming, but had more than his share of trouble with crops. Not long after their son graduated from Collage and married, they could no longer make a living with the farm and sold it. Giving a lot of historcial things to the Lexington Museum. They then renting a place after paying off all the farm depts, still in the county and Gene went to work at a local mill.

In 1972 they once again packed up and moved to Phoenix, Arizona to live near their son and their four Grandchildren. He wasn't one to retire so he went to work for a few years as a security guard at Honeywell.
Gene begain having health problems and on July 06, 1990 after several days in the hospital passed away at the age of 88.

He was survived by his wife Nadine, son Eugene "Gene" Murray Jr., his wife Ardy, Granddaughters; Deborah Sue Hebert-husband Dean, Cynthia Lynn Simmons, Julie Simmons and Grandson Kenneth L Simmons-wife Kristy and three Great Grandchildren. He was precided in death by his parents.
