Enlisted on March 25, 1862 at Stanley County, North Carolina as a Private in the 52nd North Carolina Infantry, Company I at the age of 25. POW on July 14, 1864 at Falling Waters, Maryland. Confined on August 17, 1863 at Point Lookout, Maryland. Transferred on August 10, 1864 to Elmira, New York. Died of disease as a POW.∼Son of Colonel John M. Callaway and Elizabeth Smith Callaway. Died in the Civil War.
