AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Susan Clara Harley Thompson of Martinez, GA., 91, beloved wife of the late Edward G. Thompson entered into rest on December 7, 2009. Susan was born on August 26, 1918 in Barnwell, SC., to the late Mr. Powhattan and Clara Harley. Mrs. Thompson was a homemaker and co-founder, with her husband Edward G. Thompson, of Thompson Building Wrecking Co., established in 1960. She worked diligently with her husband, children and grandchildren to grow the family business into a fifty year old company that operates over eastern Georgia and western South Carolina. She is survived by her daughter, Linda C. Thompson of Martinez, GA., two sons, Hiram E. Thompson and his wife Yvonne Thompson of Evans, GA., and Glen F. Thompson and his wife Pamela Thompson of Martinez, GA., five grandchildren, Marcus B. Thompson and his wife Lynn of Evans, GA., Elise B. McCall and her husband William of Grovetown, GA., Tyson E. Thompson and his wife Sherry of Evans, GA., S. Paxton Thompson and his wife Claudia of Augusta, GA., and Cassidy J. Thompson of Martinez, GA., eight great-grandchildren, Abigail E. Thompson and Andrew B. Thompson of Evans, GA., Olivia C. McCall, Carolina G. McCall and Shelby B. McCall of Grovetown, GA., Allie C. Thompson, Kate A. Thompson and Matthew Hardy Thompson of Evans, GA. Mrs. Thompson was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and Willing Workers Ladies Sunday School Class from 1985 until her departure. Susan Thompson was a beautiful lady who loved the Lord, a loving and gracious wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who always considered her family before herself. She will be greatly missed. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Marcus B. Thompson, Tyson E. Thompson, S. Paxton Thompson and William D. McCall. Private funeral services, with the immediate family in attendance, were held at Thomas Poteet and Son Funeral Directors Chapel on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 with Reverend Thomas Hammond officiating. She was laid to rest at Westover Memorial Cemetery, Augusta, GA. The Thompson family would like to thank Barbara Hall, Linda Jessop and the entire staff of Hall's Personal Care Home for the loving care given to our mother over the past eight years.
