Victor was 82 years of age when he died, formerly of Falls City, Nebraska, he died in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was born at his grandparent's home in Atkinson, Nebraska, the son of John and Gladys Delay. Victor graduated from Red Bluff (California) High School and Bayles College of Omaha.
He served in the US Navy from 1942 to 1944 as a cook.
He also took courses in ministry and worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad and Union Pacific Railroad for 40 years. The last 17 years he served as a traveling mobile agent to many stations in Kansas and Nebraska. Prior to this, he painted high bridges and smokestacks for Western Pacific. He was a member of the church of nazarene in Falls City, Nebraska. He loved to play the guitar and sing. He knew over 500 Chrisitan hymns and country songs.
On July 18, 1945, he married Edna P. Hershey. to this union were born four sons and four daughters. He preached for nine years in 2 nursing home voluntarily.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers; Ray, Joe, John, George and Darrell.
He was survived by his wife, Edna of Lincoln, Ne.; sons, Victor DeLay and wife Sandy of Cookeville, TN., Dan DeLay and wife Carol of Dunwoody, GA. Roger Delay of Lincoln Robert DeLay and wife Susan of Lincoln, daughters, Shirley Farmer and husband Doug of Lincoln, Sandy Shigley, Pensacola, FL. Linda Stoner of Lincoln, and Christine Williams and husband Randy of Ponca City, OK. 18 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, sisters Betty Jobe and husband Wendell of Carmel, CA. and Barbara Birchfield and husband Elwood of Fresno, CA and sister-in-law Barbara DeLay of Napa Valley, CA.
Services were held Sept. 28, 2009 at the Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City. Burial followed at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City, NE.
