Marcus Earl Cathey was born February 22, 1886, in Gatesville, Coryell County, Texas, to Henry Rutherford Cathey and Josephine Williams. He stood 5ft 9in tall, had blue eyes, light brown hair and a fair complexion. He was married to Annie Louise Sanders in about 1907. They had one son, Earl G. Cathey. In 1910, Marcus was a traveling salesman and was living in Lampasas, Lampasas County, Texas. He had also been a bookkeeper. Marcus enlisted in the Texas Rangers as a REGULAR RANGER October 3, 1911 thru July 1912. He was a Pvt. in Co. A, then transfered to Co. C as a sergeant. He then resigned. In 1918 he was the circulation manager for the Beaumont Journal in Jefferson County, Texas. In 1920, he was a real estate agent in Waco, McLennan County, Texas. Marcus Earl Cathey died August 8, 1949 in Houston, Harris County, Texas. He is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Houston.
