"MRS. BELLE MATTINGLY, a resident of the Chicago section, died at St. Joseph's Infirmary in Louisville Sunday night where she had gone about ten days before for treatment for gall bladder trouble. She was stricken ill on February 19 and her condition had been such as to cause much uneasiness to her family and friends. Mrs. Mattingly was about 58 years old and was a daughter of Marion and Elizabeth Cross. She was a good Christian woman, a devout member of the Catholic church and was loved by all who knew her. Her husband, Tom K. Mattingly, died three or four years ago. Surviving Mrs. Mattingly are eleven children, seven daughters and four sons, as follows: Mrs. J. O. Greenwell and Mrs. D. A. Giles of Etowah, Tenn.; Mrs. Nick Dant of Towanda, IL.; Mrs. John Mattingly of Lebanon Junction, Mrs. Earl Miles of Loretto, Misses Katie and Annie Bell Mattingly of Chicago and Archie Mattingly of Ottowa, IL.; Dan Mattingly of Towanda, IL.; Edward Mattingly of Loretto and Ollie Mattingly of Chicago. One brother, Ed Cross of Louisville and three sisters, Mrs. Frank Cross of Loretto, Mrs. Joe Blair and Mrs. Owen Mattingly of Chicago, and thirty grandchildren also survive. The body was brought to her home at Chicago Monday and funeral services, conducted by Rev. N. Werner, were held at the Catholic church at Chicago Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock. Burial was in the church cemetery."
