Edith C. Bryant
Mrs. Edith C. BRYANT, 83, lifetime resident of this city, died Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the Pontius nursing home. Mrs. Bryant, who resided at 1128 Main street, had been ill since suffering a stroke last Nov. 23.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home with the Rev. James RHOADS officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.
Born March 22, 1879, in Rochester, Mrs. Bryant was the daughter of Edwin and Margaret WILSON COWGILL. Her father was among the city's pioneer residents, having moved here from Peru via Maryland prior to the Civil War and gaining success as founder of a lumber business. The family home was located [SW corner] at Main and 13th streets where St. Joseph church now is sitated. The house was one of the earliest to be built on South Main street.
Her marriage was April 3, 1905, at Rocester, to Frank E. BRYANT. Her husband was a prominent local attorney and president of the former U. S. Bank and Trust company here. He also had been an official of the city's first power plant.
Mrs. Bryant attended Western College for Women and graduated in 1902 from Beloit college at Beloit, Wis. She was a member of Delta Gamma social sorority and was a lifetime member of the First Baptist church, being an active member on many of its committees during her lifetime.
Long interested in Republican party politics, she at one time had been active in the affairs of the GOP here. Mrs. Bryant was a member of the Monday club, now inactive, and the Neighborhood club.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Margaret "Betty" CARLTON, Chicago, and Mrs. Francis (Frances) BASTOW, Skokie, Ill.; two granddaughters, Mrs. Henry (Jane) TRAUSCH and Mrs. Jack (Sue) THIRY, both of Rochester; one grandson, Peter CARLTON, Princeton, N.J., and two great-grandchildren, Andrew THIRY and Karen TRAUSCH, Rochester.
