Frances M. Mathis, 99, of Bethany Home, died Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, at her residence.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, where friends may call after 9:30 a.m. today. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. The Siegert and Casper Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 390 N. Grandview Ave., is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on Dec. 14, 1909, in Dubuque, daughter of Peter and Mary (Galle) Olinger. She attended the Bayless Business College and graduated from I.C. Academy in 1927.

She married Clarence Mathis on Jan. 21, 1950, in Rockford, Ill.; he preceded her in death on May 18, 1984.

Frances worked at the Credit Bureau from November 1927 until she retired from her manager position in 1975.

Frances was a lifelong member of the Holy Ghost Church, a member of the Tri-State Blind Society, the Credit Woman's Breakfast Club, and she also was a member of the Watay-ne Club.

She enjoyed going to the casino.

Surviving are her many nieces and nephews, Margaret "Peg" Meyers, Paul A. Meyers, both of Dubuque, John F. Meyers, of Ocean Side, Calif., Dorothy Link, of Carson City, Nev., Mary "Butch" Meyers, of Dubuque, Delly Morris, of Urbandale, Robert Meyers and Dick Meyers, both of Dubuque, Tom Meyers, of Durango, Enid Ronen, of Wilmington, Calif., Roger Fenelon, of Rockford, Francis Olinger, of Oak Forest, Ill., and Molly Vollmer, of Rockford; and many great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by three sisters, Viola Meyers, Esther Ronen and Marie Fenelon; and two brothers, Peter and Frank Olinger.
