Summer Joy Herrick, 34, of Oak Ridge, passed away suddenly Monday, Aug. 18, 2008, at her home.
She was born June 22, 1974, in Paducah, Ky.
She was a 1993 graduate of Karns High School.
Summer was employed with the Children's Clinic of Oak Ridge, where she was a billing specialist. Her family was the main focus of her life and she was always active in the lives of her children.
She is survived by her mother and step-father, Vickie Elaine Stitt and Dan Stitt of Harriman; long-time companion, Rufus Shephard III; son, Donte Javaugh Shephard, a sophomore at Oak Ridge High School; daughter, Jade Nicole Shephard, an 8th grader at Robertsville Middle School; sister, Heather Herrick of Knoxville; and extended family, Georgia Shephard of Oak Ridge, Annette Shephard of Knoxville, Ruth Shephard of Oak Ridge, Erica Zhya Shephard of Oak Ridge, Rufus Shephard Jr., of Clinton, LaToya and Cory Booker of Oak Ridge, Brian Freeman of Knoxville, Denesha and Lorenzo Shephard of Knoxville, Renee, Tre and Camille Robinson of Kileen, Texas, Scott, Miranda, Camden and Andrea Laugherty and the Blount Force family of Maryville; Tre and Olivia Lee of Knoxville, Xavier, Keely, Kaitlyn and Brenda Cooper of Knoxville, Jimmy and Rose Stipe of Strawberry Plains; and her Children's Clinic family and a host of friends who were all very special to her.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, at Weatherford Mortuary from 4 until 6 p.m. The funeral will follow at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Simmy Mullins and the Rev. William Caldwell officiating. Graveside services are Friday at 1 p.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
The family asks that any memorials be in the form of contributions to the Blount Force Softball Team or the ORHS Baseball Booster Club, in c/o Coach Fronin.
