Long Time Resident Of Auburn Is Dead

Mrs. Emma Katherine Schlink, 78, widow of the late John Henry Schlink of Auburn, died at 11 o'clock Friday night in the Methodist hospital at Indianapolis.

Mrs. Schlink, a patient at the hospital for the last 17 days, died of cancer. She had been in failing health for the past year.

The elderly widow lived all her life in DeKalb county until three months ago when she moved to Indianapolis to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Ruth Taylor.

Daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Korff, Mrs. Schlink was born Sept. 15, 1874 in Grant township, DeKalb county. She was married to Mr. Schlink Aug. 2, 1895 in the old German Lutheran parsonage in Auburn.

A resident of Auburn for 53 years, she resided at 305 South Cedar street for 35 years. With her husband, she had operated the Schlink hotel at that address for 35 years.

Mr. Schlink, an honorary Auburn fireman, former blacksmith, taxicab operator and manager of the Schlink hotel, died June 16, 1952.

Surviving Mrs. Schlink besides the daughter in Indianapolis, are a brother, Fred Korff of Rt. 2, Auburn; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A son, LeRoy Schlink, preceded her in death 32 years ago. Also preceding her in death were four sisters.

The body is at the Gerig funeral home in Auburn, where final rites will be held Tuesday at 11 a. m. Officiating at the services will be the Rev. C. C. Collins, pastor of the Auburn Methodist church. Interment will be in the mausoleum near Woodlawn cemetery.
