The many friends of the family were grieved to learn of the passing away of Mrs. Lizzie Ellen Everett, which occurred at her home in Palestine, Texas, at 11:30 Tuesday morning, Jan. 31, 1922, after an extended illness of almost a year.
During her months of illness her sufferings were borne without complaint, and loving hearts ministered to her with tender care and devotion. In September she was taken to Rochester, Minn., in hope that some relief might be found for her condition but human skill could afford her no relief.
Lizzie Ellen Troxel was the second daughter of James Monroe and Dorcas McKee Troxel. She was born at Fairfield, Iowa on May 18, 1872. During her infancy her parents moved to the vicinity of Chariton, Iowa, where she spent her girlhood days. Later she was a teacher in the rural schools.
On July 26, 1893, she was united in marriage to H. A. Everett, of Palestine, Texas. They made their home at that place. During the twenty-four years of her life at Palestine she made a place of unusual respect and affections in the life of the community.
She was an intelligent and faithful worker in the Methodist Episcopal church with which she had joined at Derby, Iowa at the age of 13 years. She was a distinguished member of the Pythian Sisters and the Macabees, both of which orders entrusted her with high offices and honors, she being the Past Grand Chief of the Pythian Sisters of Texas. In all matters concerning the good of the community she was always in sympathy and ready co-operation. The entire community felt a sense of loss in her going.
She is survived by the bereaved husband, the father, three sisters and a brother, Mrs. Nettie Brewer, of Corydon, Iowa; Dr. R. M. Troxel, of Gillette, Wyoming; Mrs. Leona Miller, of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and Mrs. Ethel Morris, of Austin, Texas.
Funeral services were held at Palestine, Texas Wednesday afternoon, February 1, 1922, after which, in obedience to her request, the remains were brought to her father's home in Chariton, Iowa, where services were held on Saturday, February 4, 1922, at 1:30 p.m., conducted by Rev. Frank Bean, pastor of the Chariton Methodist church, after which the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at Derby, Iowa.
