Francis was born on September 18, 1918 to the late George and Nelda Martin in Manteno, IL. He was the youngest of eleven children, one sister Lillian Klipp of Manteno survives.

He married the former Isabelle Francoeur on May 30,1942. A World War II Veteran, PFC Martin entered the Army in October of 1942 serving in the 130th infantry receiving an expert and combat infantryman badges. From 1943-1945 he fought in the battles in New Guinea and Luzan and was decorated with the Victory Medal Asiatic-Pacific theater Ribbon and two Bronze Battle Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and one Bronze Battle Star, five Overseas Service Bars, one Service Stripe and Good Conduct Medal. After Mr. Martin's years in the service, he drove a fuel truck for Rogers Cartage Trucking and retired after 28 years of hard work and dedicaiton from the Teamsters Local 179.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bradley and the Manteno American Legion.

Francis loved baseball, the Chicago Cubs were his favorite team. Playing the sport with his children was a weekend event. He also enjoyed horseshoes, bowling, golfing, fishing, dancing, gardening and just tinkering around. Most of all he loved to tell stories of his amazing life to those he loved.

Together that had five sons and four daughters, Mary Martin, Manteno, IL., Terry and Ilga Martin, Bourbonnais, IL., Mike and Wendy Martin, Kankakee, IL., Patricia Martin, Kankakee, IL., Tom & Sharon Martin, Kankakee, IL., Susan Simeur, Kankakee, Il., Gloria & Bob Romero, Centralia, IL., Francis [Willie} and Edie Martin, Jr., Grant Park, IL., and John Martin, Kankakee, Il., twenty seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Henry, John and Edmond [T-Boy], sisters, Lucille, Grace, Stella, Georgiana, Dorothy and Ester and one grandson, Nathan Barber.
