Joseph J. Sousa, 90, passed away June 29, 2007 at his residence in Orland, Calif.
Joseph was born July 2, 1916, in Ferndale, Calif., to Joseph and Amelia Sousa. He went to school in Ferndale and also married his wife of 66 years Belmeda Nunes, Oct. 12, 1940, in Ferndale. Joseph was a dairyman for 40 years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, 1901 Orland and Air Plane Pilots Association. He was a life long avid Antique Airplane pilot starting at age 17. He loved ocean fishing.
He is survived by his wife Belmeda of Orland; a son Raymond of Chicago; grandsons: Joseph and Anthony of Magalia, Calif., and granddaughter, Mindy of El Paso, Texas. Two sisters: Alice Haywood of Fortuna, Calif., and Marie Rocha of Arcata, Calif. Three brothers: Ernest of Arcata, Eugene of Fortuna, Calif., and Albert of Arcata, Calif. Preceded in death by a son, Edward and a brother, Anthony. He will be missed by countless friends.
Visitation was held on Monday at F.D. Sweet & Son Mortuary, Orland. Pray vigil service and mass will be Tuesday July 3, 2007, starting at 10 a.m., at St. Dominic's Catholic Church, Orland, Calif. Interment will follow at the Orland Catholic Cemetery.
