Note 1: Not to be confused with his younger brother, NATHANIEL BENJAMIN ALDRIDGE (1740-1797), husband of ROSEMUND. NATHANIEL BENJAMIN died in Alabama.

Note 2: NATHAN'S birth year is more accurately given as "about 1739". The name of the county in which he was born changed in his lifetime. Orange County, NC was created in 1752 from the former Bladen and Granville counties.

The surname ALDRIDGE is spelled various ways and has many derivatives - NATHAN may have used ALDRIDGE most often, but some of his children adopted the ALLDREDGE spelling.

He married HANNAH MADDEN in about 1765, probably in Randolph Co, North Carolina.

Their known children:

1) William Alldridge (1767-1821)
Wife: Mary ?

2) Ellenor Alldredge (1769-1849)
Husband 1: Isaac Henry York
Husband 2: Jessie Julian, Sr.

3) Margaret Aldridge (1769-1850)
Husband: Thomas Alred

4) Sylvania Alldredge (1774-1845)
Husband: Tobias Long

5) Mary Ann Aldridge (1776-1850)

Men bearing the same name as NATHAN ALLDREDGE and those of his brothers JAMES and NICHOLAS appear on the 1768 Regulators Advertisement that circulated in Randolph Co, NC. This Advertisement was a list of males protesting conditions imposed upon them by the English governor WILLIAM TRYON.

Similar petitions were filed by many colonists of the day for the same reasons, in an effort to secure the protections due them under English law. It was the refusal of the British Crown to address these grievances - and their repressive responses to them - which led to so much discontent among so many Colonists.

It is possible that NATHAN and his brothers also showed up at what became known as the Battle of Alamance, a bloody confrontation between NC backwoodsmen and Governor TRYON and his soldiers in 1771. Men were killed and wounded on both sides, and historical accounts may be found online.
