John P. Reed, age 68 years of Erie, MI, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 10, 2005 in his home surrounded by his family. Born August 27, 1936 in Toledo, he was the son of Walter and Clara (Lewandowski) Reed. A 1954 graduate of Monroe High School, he served in the US Army from 1959-1962. John began his meat cutting career at the age of 16 at the former Lengle's Meat House in Temperance, MI and retired in 1999 after working for several area stores. John enjoyed work, being outdoors, camping, sports and woodworking. He especially enjoyed making lighthouses, all he needed was a picture. John was a family man, who was always ready to help his kids and friends.

John married Janice A. Shinevar and together they built their home on Erie Rd. and raised their 4 children, Laura (Russ) Bacome, Todd W. Reed, Mark A. Reed and Melissa (Jim) Barber. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Johnnathan Hamby, Katrina Bacome and Hayden Barber. Sister, Rita (John) Oehlhof and Brother, Walter Reed, Jr. John was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Frank and Edward Reed and 2 sisters, Dorothy Belair and Alma Reed.
At John's request, there will be no visitation. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 21, 2005 in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Temperance, where a Memorial Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. Fr. Daniel Nusbaum, pastor of the church, officiating.

The family suggests any memorials may be sent to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery Fund or Veterans Hospital Ann Arbor. The family would especially like to thank the V.A. Hospital, Ann Arbor, MI and Hospice of Ann Arbor for all of John's Care. Arrangements entrusted to the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, Temperance, MI.
