Bartholomew Ponsonby Pack, aka Bartholomew Peck, was the son of Rev. Bartholomew Pack and his wife Barbara Harty, and the grandson of Rev. Richard Pack and wife Mary Percy.

He was a Lieutenant in the Revenue Police, and in 1852 was put in charge of the barracks in Portumna, Galway, posting a £200 bond. Griffith's Valuation shows him living in one of the largest houses in the village, and leasing two gardens.

In 1860 he and his wife and children left Liverpool for New York, having booked a cabin on the square-rigger "William Tapscott." Their little son George, aged 3, died shortly before they reached port.
