SHELBY — Mr. Gerald Thomas Gardner Sr., 70, of 606 Gold St., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 16, 2006, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Gardner was born in Cleveland County to the late Andrew Vaughn Gardner and Edna Mae Pendleton Gardner. He was a member of Putnam Memorial Baptist Church. He enjoyed going to the Neal Senior Center, fishing, flying line-controlled airplanes and playing pool. He was a loving husband, Daddy, Paw Paw and brother. He left his loving memories with his wife of 48 years, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother and sisters.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Vaughn Gardner, and a grandson, Michael Keith.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Gaines Gardner of the home; a son, Gerald Thomas Gardner Jr. and wife, Angie, of Mooresboro; three daughters, Donna Jean Garitta and husband, Salvatore Jr., of Lake Lure, Sharon Willis and husband, Richard, and Terra Alexander and husband, Chad, all of Shelby; two sisters, Janice Champion and husband, Ken, and Suzanne McIntyre and husband, Terry, all of Shelby; a brother, Kenneth Gardner and wife, Pat, of Fallston; seven grandchildren, Michelle Tischofer and husband, Keven, of Colchester, Conn., Shannon Shaw and husband, Richard, of Middletown, Conn., Brandy Gardner of Mooresboro, Ashlee Willis of Shelby, Gerald Thomas "Bubba" Gardner III, of Mooresboro, and Aaron Alexander and Clayton Alexander, both of Shelby; and three great-grandchildren, Tori Tischofer, Kalina Tischofer and Kamryn Tischofer, all of Connecticut. He is also survived by his dog and cat companions, Buster, Sissy and Panther.

Visitation: The family will receive friends tonight at Putnam Memorial Baptist Church 90 minutes before the service and other times at the home.
