CUMBERLAND,MARYLAND —- Thomas Eugene Carney Sr., 83, of Cumberland, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, Jan. 15, 2007, at Memorial Hospital.

Born June 21, 1923, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Eugene and Pearl (Rosenmarkle) Carney. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Barbarella Carney Mulligan; one brother, John Carney; and two sons, Thomas "Eddie" Carney and Thomas Eugene Carney Jr.

Mr. Carney attended Central Assembly of God with his daughter and son-in-law. He retired from Kelly Springfield Tire Company. While working for the Kelly, he played on their softball and duck-pin bowling league. He was an avid singer for many years, having sung with the Choraliers, conducted by Monroe and Gwen Harris, and the Choral Society of Cumberland.

Surviving are his wife, LeVada Humbertson Carney, of Cumberland; one son, Robert A. Carney, of Frederick; one daughter, Mary Catherine Kesner and husband, Bill, with whom he resided; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Carder Carney; three grandchildren, Bruce Carney, of Finzel, Beth Ann Carney, of Hagerstown, Shayanne Hare Detrick and husband, Chris, of Ridgeley, W.Va.; two great-grandchildren, Austin Michael Detrick, of Ridgeley, Thomas Allen Carney, of Hagerstown; one step-brother, Frank Carney, of Florida; several nieces and nephews; and companion canine, Tootsie Two (TT).

At Mr. Carney's request, he was cremated.

A memorial service will be conducted at the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery Chapel at Rocky Gap, Flintstone, at a later date.

Military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
