W. Roger Hoida, age 64, of 18th Avenue, Menominee, died very unexpectedly on Saturday, November 20, 1999 at Bay Area Medical Center. Roger was born Spetember 17, 1935 in Stephenson to Edna (Neville) Hoida and the late William Hoida.

On June 9, 1956 he married Carol Corey in Stephenson. Roger graduated from Stephenson High School in 1953 and from Western Michigan University in 1957. He was a school teacher in Menominee High School for 33 years, retiring in 1990. Upon his retirement from the school, he formed Hoida Building, a company which utilized his exteme craftsmanship abilities. While in school Roger coached the High School boys and girls gold team, and the boys and girls rifle team. He was a referee for High School football and basketball, and also taught drivers education.

He was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church of Menominee and North Shore Golf Club. He was a lifetime member of the NEA and MEA. He was also a partner in Packaging Partners, a contract packaging corporation in Chicago, Illinois. He was a lifetime member of the Menominee Historical Society.

Survivors include his wife, Carol of Menominee; 2 daughters, Anita (Loren) Doepke of Menominee and Nancy (Jack) Plansky of Menominee; 2 grandechildren, Heather and Justin; his mother, Edna Hoida of Stephenson; a sister, Connie (David) Westrich of Chesapeake, Virginia; a brother, Marlin Hoida of Pulaski, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ron.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Anderson-Diehm Funeral Home. Parish wake service at 7:30 p.m. led by Deacon Vince Beckley. Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Resurrection Catholic Church, Menominee. Father Dino Silvestrini will officiate.

Burial in Riverside cemetery in Menominee.

Pallbearers will be Loren Doepke, Jack Plansky, Dean Furton, Dr. William Swanson, Robert Krysiak and Fancis Mellenger.

Roger's first love was obviously his family. Because of his admiration for the outdoors, his family feels that he really was a farmer at heart. He also loved his chosen profession of teaching school.

Donations received in Roger's memory will be used for youth activties in Menominee.
