On December 3, 2009, Coy E. Morris, aged 91, passed away peacefully at home in Anderson. The cause of death was prostate cancer. Born June 3, 1918, near Comanche, Oklahoma, Coy first left that state when he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in New Mexico in 1937. After returning to Oklahoma, he married Lily Ogilbee in June 1938.

Coy and Lily left Oklahoma in late 1939 with the intention of going to Oregon to farm. After losing their nest egg in Arizona, they finally made it to Los Angeles on Christmas Eve 1939, joining family that had already relocated there.
Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, Coy joined the U.S. Navy in September of 1942. He served as a machinist first on the USS Sculptor and then on the USS Lubbock, a ship that provided support for the invasion forces during the bloody battles on Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Coy left the Navy in November of 1945, with the rank of Machinist Mate First Class.

Returning to Lily in Los Angeles, Coy worked a number of jobs before going to work for Los Angeles County as an Operating Engineer at the County's main power plant in downtown L.A. He and Lily had a son and daughter and in 1949, they purchased a home in Rosemead, an L.A. suburb. Coy retired from L.A. County in June 1978, and they relocated to Anderson where they purchased a small walnut orchard. Working in the orchard and keeping it in immaculate condition became Coy's focus.

Throughout his life, Coy was known for his willingness to lend a hand to any friend or neighbor who needed help. A history buff, Coy was especially fascinated by the life of Abraham Lincoln and read extensively on the Civil War and World War II.

Coy will be greatly missed by Lily, his wife of 71 years, his son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Donette Morris of Anderson, his daughter, Nelda Morris, of Sacramento, his brothers, Neal Morris, of Cottonwood, Arizona and Goldie Morris of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and many devoted nieces, nephews and friends in California and across the country.

A service will be held at Lawncrest Chapel in Redding on Wednesday, December 9. Viewing will be at 11 a.m., with the service to follow at 12 noon. Burial will be at the Veterans Cemetery at Igo.
