Still not sure how John fits in the picture or if he is Mathias & Elisabeth's son.
Mathias & Elisabeth had a son named John, and he appears in the 1850 census in Detroit. In 1860 a John Assman appears in the Port Huron census. There is no John Assman in Detroit in 1860, and there was no John Assman in Port Huron in 1850, and the two John's appear to be born a few years apart. So far no death record has been found except for this John Asman where the informant lists his parents as George Assman & Mary Klingles. No information has been found on George & Mary.
