Thomasville, GA – Maxine Heath, age 95, died Monday, September 22. She was born November 5, 1918 in Midland City, AL to the late John McNeill “Mac” and Willie Mae Golson. Upon graduation from New Brockton High School in New Brockton, AL, she moved to Gainesville, FL where she met her husband Richard Heath. At his death in 2007, they had been married for 64 years.
During their early married years, Maxine worked alongside him when he was employed as a hydrologist with the U.S. Geological Survey. They enjoyed travelling throughout the U.S. in one of many campers and motor homes. Maxine learned to play golf when she was in her 50’s and continued through her 80’s. Since May 2012, Maxine lived at Southern Pines Senior Living on Covington Avenue in Thomasville and thoroughly enjoyed all the activities and especially her new friends.
She was the school secretary for Eighth Street Elementary under Principal Robert Jones in the early 60’s. Her last occupation was as medical secretary and she worked for many doctors until her retirement in 1981.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard “Dick” Heath. Surviving are her two daughters and their spouses, Carol and Byron Hinson of Thomasville, GA and Joan and Bobby Stark of Ocala/ Maine. She was blessed with grandchildren, Johanna Stark Jensen (Douglas), Clarksville, TN, Brad (Bree) Hinson, Thomasville, Karen Hinson, Thomasville, Jeff (Michelle) Hinson, Stuart, FL. Her great-grandchildren include Hunter Hinson, Gracen Elizabeth Hinson, Lindsay Caroline Hinson, Henry Heath Forehand and Andrew Hinson Forehand, Thomasville, Billy Roberts and Eric Hinson, Stuart, FL. She is also survived by her brother Richard Golson (Jacque), Phoenix, AZ, along with nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at Highland Memorial Park in Ocala, at 11:00 am Monday, September 29. Arrangement made by Hiers- Baxley Funeral Services, Ocala, FL and Allen & Allen Funeral Home, Thomasville, GA. A memorial service will be held at Southern Pines Senior Living in Thomasville on Wednesday, October 1. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church, Ocala, FL and First Presbyterian Church, Thomasville, GA.
