Chester J. Kilby
Feb. 11, 1933 - May 25, 2005
Chester James Kilby, 72, passed away May 25, 2005. Funeral services will be
held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 28, from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home,
with Bro. Terry Barnwell officiating. Interment will be in Haley's Grove
Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 27, at the
funeral home.
Mr. Kilby was born Feb. 11, 1933 in Rhea County, the son of Ivory and Irene
(Pelfrey) Kilby.
Born in Crossville, he moved to Ohio in 1957 and returned to Crossville in
1978 where he remained.
He was a friend to everyone who knew him. He was known by all as a very hard
worker. He worked in rock quarry until sickness led to his departure. He
started and operated various companies throughout his working career,
including Triple-K, Kemmer and Kilby Construction, Kilby and Sons Stone
Quarry and farming.
He "semi-retired" in 1978 at age 45 when he moved back to Tennessee. He
continued to work and before long, he started several enterprises including
cutting timber for the sawmill he set up, developing his farm, raising beef
and opening several rock quarries. He enjoyed his work.
In recent years, he enjoyed raising goats and spending time on his farm. He
enjoyed playing (and teasing) his grandchildren. He leaves many wonderful
memories with his children and grandchildren.
He was a most dependable and very generous man, a loving husband, father and
grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Midge Kilby of Crossville; sons and
daughters-in-law, Bill and Jo Ann Kilby of Crossville, Jim and Jane Kilby of
North Ridgeville, OH, Larry Kilby of Crossville and Lonnie and Deanie Kilby
