William E. Bigham was a Union Soldier in the Civil War.

He was the husband of Jane Ann (Kelly) Bigham (1837-1908).

A Large Delegation From Spokane Attend Mr. Bigham's Funeral.

The funeral of William Bigham at Cheney yesterday was largely attend from all parts of the surrounding country and the neighboring towns, including large delegations from Sprague, Spangle, Spokane and Medical Lake. The Spokane delegation left the Northern Pacific depot in a special coach for Cheney at 7:30 a.m. and arrived at their destination at 9:30 a.m. and were met by the delegations from the other towns and country. The Spokane delegation were from among the most prominent Masons and citizens of this place, including Hon. H.W. Fairweather, Hon. E.B. Hyde, Hon. B.C. Van Houten, J.M. Grimmer, H.G. Stimmel, W.W. Witherspoon, who were pall bearers; D.S. Prescott, J.N. Barker, N. Triplett, George McLaughlin, W.A. Lathrop, E.H. Hutchinson, Fred Sturm, W.R. Marvin, George Gebhart, G.O. Bump, J.R. Marks, John H. Stone, E.H. Allen, Dr. E.D. Olmstead, Haprey Brace, Louis Ziegler, W.H. Wiscomb, Jacob Hoover, L.L. Lang, Will Ziegler, J. Luce, Louis Kosminski (Coeur d'Alene City), J.G. Webb, J.W. Wentworth, Rev. H.W,. Stratton, A.L. White, S.H. Rush, D.M. Drumheller, Commissioner James Monahan and J.M. Watkins accompanied the Masons.
The funeral services were conducted at the Congregational church, which was inadequate to seat half of the assembled multitude. Prayer was offered by Rev. H.W. Stratton of Spokane, followed by a very eloquent and interesting sermon by Rev. G.W. Hooker pastor of the congregation.
After the remains had been viewed by the friends and brothers the procession moved to the cemetery, where the funeral rites of masonry were conducted in a very impressive manner.
The pall bearers, selected from the Spokane delegation were W.W. Witherspoon, H.W. Fairweather, H.G. Stimmel, E.B. Hyde, B.G. Van Houten, and J.M. Grimmer. Mr. Will Ziegler was appointed marshal. The Spokane delegation returned at 4 p.m.
William Bigham was born February 1, 1831, at Amsterdam, N.Y. In '52 he came to California, thence to Oregon, and in 1879 he removed from Oregon to Cheney, in or near which place he since resided. For two years Mr. Bigham lived in Spokane, and was a partner in business with Mr. D.M. Drumheller.
He was a prominent mason and a well-known citizen throughout the state. He leaves a wife, two sons and a daughter.
