He was born to Beatrice (Cotteral) and Lynn Kofahl at 230 North St., Taft, California, and grew up without the influence of an earthly father.

After serving in World War II in Gen. Patton's army, Robert E. Kofahl believed the gospel of Christ in 1947 as an undergraduate in chemistry at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, Calif., where he received the B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in 1949 and 1954, respectively. Active in campus witness and a co-founder of the Caltech Christian Fellowship, he soon developed an interest in the evolution-creation issue which became a long-term avocation.

In 1972 after 21 years in the faculty and administration of Highland College, a small Christian college where he served as its president, Dr. Kofahl joined the staff of the Creation-Science Research Center in San Diego, where he served as Science Coordinator. Co-author with C-SRC Director, Dr. Kelly Segraves, of the book, The Creation Explanation, and author of numerous articles and papers on evolution and creation, including The Handy Dandy Evolution Refuter, he had many opportunities to lecture on this subject at schools, churches, colleges and universities.

In her book, "The Ten Commandments: The Significance of God's Laws in Everyday Life," Dr. Laura Schlessinger quoted Dr. Kofahl as saying, "We are exhorted to PUSH evil thoughts from our minds by replacing them with good, uplifting thoughts." (page 302).

His favorite Bible verse was: "But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justified of him which believeth in Jesus." Rom. 3:21-26
