Obituary - Alfred Joseph Vollmer, 86, of Pigeon, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1998 at Brian's House in Essexville. He was the husband of Hilda Louise Laeder and son of the late David and Louise (Thiel) Vollmer. He was born in Pigeon. Mr. Vollmer was a World War II Army infantry veteran. He was a volunteer fireman with the Winsor Fire Department for more than 30 years. Along with his brother Ray, Mr. Vollmer owned the Vollmer Music Company in Pigeon. Later, he operated the Vollmer Hotel in Pigeon with his brother Carl. Mr. Vollmer was a member of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Pigeon. Survivors include his widow; a daughter, Elizabeth N. Wallace of Freeland; a son, Robert Alfred Vollmer of New Bedford; five grandchildren; two step grandchildren; a great-grandson; two-half brothers, John Vollmer and David Vollmer, both of Pigeon; two half sisters, Helen Nimtz and Dorothy Gruehn, both of Sebewaing; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Carl Vollmer and Ray Vollmer, Margaret Schmidt and Mary Hinton and two half brothers, Frank and Arthur.
