A Railroad Accident - There was an accident on the Vandalia railroad at Macksville, near Terre Haute last Friday. A train was coming from the west in two sections and being a trifle late the conductor took the side track to get out of the way of a train going west. Before he got his train on the siding the rear section came down the grade and the track being wet and slippery, the engineer found it impossible to check his train and it crashed into the rear coach of the first section.
There were a good many passengers aboard the coach, but nearly all of them got out in safety. Six were left inside, four of them injured. The most seriously hurt was C. C. Hill of Shelburn, this county. He was found wedged in next to the brake. The coach caught fire, but was soon extinguished and Mr. Hill released. He was brought to the city and taken to St. Anthony's hospital where he died at 5:30. This is the first passenger ever killed on the Vandalia railroad in an accident.
