Mrs. L. Vandruff, mother of B. L. Vandruff, who had made her home in Broadwater with her granddaughter, Mrs. Fay Thacker, for the past year and a half, passed away Saturday afternoon at the St. Joseph Hospital in Alliance. Death followed a stroke which she had suffered a week before, and from which she failed to regain consciousness. Two months previous, she suffered her first stroke, and had gained miraculously from it, when striken again.

Lucretia Emily Chambers, daughter of John R. and Dorcas Chambers, was born in Kent, Indiana, June 20, 1862, and departed this life at Alliance, Nebraska on March 16, 1946 at the age of 83 years, 8 months, 26 days.

On June 11, 1882, she was united in marriage to Lemuel A. Vandruff who preceded her in death after 58 years of wedded life. Fifty years of this was spent on their homestead, located 8 miles north of Holbrook. To this union eight children were born, five preceding her in death, three in early childhood, Clyde E. in 1935 and Oscar L. in 1943.

She leaves to mourn her departure three sons, Clarence P. and Charles A. of Holbrook and Bryce L. of Broadwater, 12 grandchildren, one brother, George A. Chambers of Shenandoah, Iowa, one sister, Mrs. Frank E. (Susan) Reynolds of Lincoln, Neb., many other relatives and a host of friends.

Mrs. Vandruff was a member of the Methodist Church. She was a devoted wife and mother and will be remembered as a kind friend and neighbor, active in community affairs - always helping wherever needed.
