Mr. Abernathy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Lois Abernathy(died 25 July 2009); and a sister-in-law: Joyce Carmack.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Dan and June Abernathy, and Paul and Tammy Abernathy; two grandchildren: Stacy Dodd and husband, Josh, and Dillon Abernathy; one great-granddaughter: Carlie Dodd, all of Royal, Arkansas; one sister-in-law: Linda Carmack of Glenwood, Arkansas; one brother-in-law: Buddy Carmack of Hot Springs, Arkansas; several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
Graveside service was held at 2:00p.m. on November 29, 2009, at the Mt. Olive Cemetery in Oden(Montgomery County), Arkansas. Brother George Lynch, officiated the service.
Honorary pallbearers were: the staff at the Montgomery County Nursing Home; and Dr. John B. Bond.
