He was a barber. He owned his own barber shop.

The plot where John Martin Curry is buried has a marker for his last wife (Willie Frances Hicks Curry) on his north side and five marked but unidentified graves on his south side.

The unidentified grave on his immediate south side may be his wife Lillian who is listed with him in the 1940 census in Fulton County, Georgia.

The other four marked but unidentified graves may be his parents, William and Sarah, and his two younger brothers, Jesse and Wiley, who died young.

John's sister, Mary Curry Moss, and her husband, James Asbury Moss, are also believed to be buried in the Philadelphia Methodist Church Cemetery so two of the five unidentified graves in the Curry plot may be Mary and her husband.

According to the 1910 census for Rockdale County, Georgia, Mary Curry Moss also had a daughter named Lucile born between Bessie and James. The name of this child was not handed down in the family history records so it is assumed Lucile Moss died young. She may also be buried in one of the many unidentified graves in the Philadelphia Methodist Church Cemetery.

There is a marker next to John Martin Curry with the words "Wife Willie Frances Curry" but there are no dates on this marker and she is not believed to be buried there. She is believed to be buried near her first husband.
