Caryl B. Augustine, 85, of Pleasant Park Estates in Oskaloosa and formerly of rural Eddyville, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, at Pleasant Park Estates. Her funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Eddyville, the Rev. Gary McDonough officiating. Burial in Forest Cemetery. Visiting hours are open until 9 p.m. today at Eddyville Funeral Chapel, with family present from 6:30-8 p.m. Memorials may be made to Eddyville United Methodist Church.
Caryl B. Augustine was born Feb. 8, 1915, in Harrison Township, Mahaska County, to Edwin S. and Lydia Coleman Brubaker. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1932, and attended Iowa State College for two years. She married John B. Augustine on June 1, 1935, in Kirksville, Mo. She was an active member of Eddyville United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, and held many offices on the local and state level. She was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority at Iowa State College. She was a member of the 2-4 club in her neighborhood. She was a past member of the Oskaloosa Chapter DAR. She was a charter member of the Harrison Zippers 4-H club and was a leader of the Happy Helpers 4-H club in Wapello County.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Max Ohms of Eddyville; three grandchildren: Roger Ohms of Oklahoma city, Okla., Beth and husband Brent Fenton of Eddyville, and Caryn and husband Lawrence Smith of Eddyville; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, john, on Dec. 7, 1994; her parents; a great-granddaughter, Shaun Marie Fenton; two brothers, Fred and Ray Brubaker, and three sisters, Ellen Worthy, May Lane and Alice Shannon.
