B.J. Clark of Rossville died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008. He was 89. He was born June 20, 1918 in Philadelphia, Miss. He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army, serving with the Medical Vac unit out of Fort Benning from 1940-1945. He worked for Armour and Co. and Red Food Stores. He went into the grocery store business in the 1970s. He and his wife owned and operated three different stores over the years, the last one being Clark's Grocery on Cross Street. He was a charter member of Parkway Baptist Temple. He enjoyed making a huge garden, which he shared with everyone. He loved horses and attending horse shows, and was a member of National Racking Horse Association. He was preceded in death by his parents, Temple and Ida Smith Clark; sister and brother-in-law, Odie Zell and Randolph Cheatham; brother-in-law, Hitch Hitchcock. Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Lillie Daniel Clark; sister, Ida Jean Hitchcock of Calabasas, Calif.; niece and caretaker, Margie (Jerry) Mayfield of Fort Oglethorpe; numerous other nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews and "adopted" children and lots of dear friends whom he loved very much. Services: Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home chapel with Dr. David Sampson and Rev. Richard Byers officiating. Burial: Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.
