E. Max Maggart of Tucson, AZ, died at his residence June 5, 2002. He was born Nov. 4, 1928 at Cromwell, IN to Albert and Mabel (Leedy) Maggart. He first married Beverly Klingaman in 1952 at Cromwell; she died in 1993. He then married Ardith "Dolly" Gaff Pontious in Akron, IN in 1995 and she survives. He had lived at Tucson since 1980.
He attended Emmanuel United Methodist Church near Akron, and was a member of the Tucson American Legion Post 36. He worked in civil service at David Monthan Air Base in Tucson, retiring in 1990. He was an Army Veteran during the Korean Conflict, and received the Purple Heart.
Survivors include his wife Ardith "Dolly" Maggart of Macy, IN, a son, Dwaine (Carol) Maggart of Moorpark, CA; step sons Steve (Vicky) Pontious of Monroe, MI and Eric (Diane) Pontious of Akron, IN; step daughters Mrs. Darrell (Cheri) Lewis of Wabash and Mrs. David (Patti) Cordill of North Manchester; sisters Mrs. Ed (Sharon) Batesia of Syracuse and Janis Turner of Goshen; 13 step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Monday, June 24, 2002 at Emmanuel United Methodist Church near Akron with Rev. Richard K. Fox officiating.
Preferred memorials are to Gideon International, or to the Emmanuel United Methodist Church. Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service of Wabash was in charge of arrangements.
