Rites To Be Held Wednesday
C. L. Bartholomew Was City's Head For Two Terms
Services will be held on Wednesday for Dr. C. L. Bartholomew, 83, one of the most popular mayors in the history of Valparaiso.
He died at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in Porter Memorial hospital after a long illness.
A former dentist and city building inspector, he served two terms as Republican mayor of Valparaiso and operated for many years the funeral home establishment his son, C. Robert Bartholomew, now operates.

After serving five years as building commissioner, Dr. Bartholomew was elected mayor in 1934 and served two four-year terms from 1935 through 1942.
In the 1938 city election, he received 2,716 votes, a total which still stands as a record vote accorded any Valparaiso mayor.
Born near Cooks Corners Nov. 15, 1877, he was the son of C. W. and Elizabeth (Poor) Bartholomew.
He was a dentist in Morocco, Valparaiso and Chicago until 1923, the year he returned here to enter the undertaking business with his father.
He was a graduate (1899) of Chicago Dental College.
