William Beyer was born in Manhattan, the son of German (Prussian) immigrants: Julius Beyer and Johanna Attenberg. He lived in the Hell's Kitchen section of New York City. In 1916, he married a local girl, Hanorah "Nora" Vail, the daughter of Irish immigrants, Mary Kennedy and Frank Veale. Their children included Mary, William, Margaret and Edward.
He worked as a bartender until prohibition and then he worked in the Steinway Piano factory.
His funeral service was at St. Luke's Lutheran Church on West 46th Street in New York.
