Frances Abbott

Frances L. Abbott, 77, passed away at 9:30 am Monday, Feb. 11, 2008, at her home, after several years of declining health.
She was born Aug. 19, 1930, in St. Louis to Henry Rex and Marie L. (Harper) Shankland.
A 1948 graduate of Soldan High School, she married William S. Abbott on June 4, 1955, in St. Louis. They spent the next 52 years together until his death last year.
She was a devoted wife and mother and patiently stood by and supported her husband, Bill, in his pursuit of antique cars.
She is survived by two sons, Robert, and his wife, Sonia, of Godfrey, and Richard "Rick" of Alton; five grandchildren, Teresa St. Peters and her husband, Michael, of Godfrey, Andrea Webb and her husband, Aaron, of Alton, Jason "J.B." Abbott and Eric Abbott of Alton, and Jody Poletti and her husband, Joe, of Wood River. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren, Taylor, Tyler and Tanner St. Peters, and Sophia Marie Poletti.
In addition to her husband, she was proceeded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Michelle (Abbott) Brose of St. Louis.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Elias Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Upper Alton.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mark Myers of the First United Methodist Church in Jerseyville officiating.
Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Jerseyville or the American Cancer Society.
