Summerville: Funeral Services for Miss Jeanne Gadsden will be held at 11 a.m. today [Thurday, Nov. 16, 1967] in St. Paul's Protestant Episcopal Church, Burial will be in the church cemetery, directed by Parks Funeral Home.

Miss Gadsden died Tueday night [Nov. 14, 1967] in the Dorchester County Hospital.

Miss Gadsden was born Jan. 12, 1905 in Summerville, a daughter of the late John Blacklock Gadsden and Mrs. Charlotte Thompson Gadsden.

She was a retired secretary, formerly employed by the West Virginia Pulp and Paper Co.. She was a member of St. Paul's Church. She was a graduate of Winthrop College, Class of 1925.

Miss Gadsden was an outstanding sportswoman, active in horse-riding and shooting.

The late Ben Robertson [1903-1943], former reporter for The News and Courier in Charleston and foreign correspondent who was killed in a plane crash during World War II, dedicated one of his books "I Saw England", which was about the Battle of Britain, to Miss Gadsden.

Surviving is a foster-son, Tech. Sgt. Leslie G. Phillips and a foster grandson, Sydney Robertson Phillips, both of Columbia; an aunt, Mrs. Willism Gadsden of Summerville; eight cousins, Mrs. T. W. Thornhill and Gadsden Smith, both of Charleston; Miss Louise Deas of Shreveport, La., Mrs. Arthur Hazard of Augusta; Mrs. Raymond C. Philips of Gainesville, Fla., Thomas R. Waring, Sewanee, Tenn.;Llonel C. H. Waring, and Mrs. Herbert L. Bailey, both of Summerville.---Published in the News and Courier, Nov. 16, 1967
