DEATH OF DR. ALTHAM

Dr. Arthur G. Altham for 20 years Sheldon's only physician, died at his home here at 5:10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, 1945, after an illness covering the last seven years, suffering from high blood pressure , which resulted in at least three cerebral hemorrhages, followed by strokes, the first in August, the last a short time before his death. He also suffered severely from pellagra.

Since last June he has been helpless, being given the most ardent care by his devoted wife, who prior to her marriage to Dr. Altham was a trained nurse.

Seven years ago his health failed to such an extent he was forced to abandon his life work, in which he was so efficient, and he sold his practice to Dr. T. J. Puckett.

He was married Dec. 12, 1922, to Miss Pearl Base. They were married at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Snider, at this place.

Dr. Altham's practice was marked by the most devoted attention to his patients, never sparing himself when 'aught he could do might advantage mankind, and many persons owe their lives to his intense loyalty to his patients. They will not forget him.

Services were held at the Beeny Funeral Home, Thursday at 2:00 p.M., by his friend, Rev. H. C. Green of Golden City. An abundance of floral offerings marked the esteem in which he was held.

The singers were: Mrs. C. J. Donaldson, Mrs. Ray McGehee, Mrs. Ollie Parsons, and Mrs. Lee Burney, with Mrs. T. O. Willhite at the piano. The sons were: "Near The Cross," and "Rock of Ages."

The pall bearers were R. J. Holmes, Charles Cooper, Lee Burney, Mike Castor, Rex Turk, and Lester DeFreese.

Interment was at Deepwood cemetery in Nevada, near the graves of Dr. Altham's mother and father, and was in charge of Beeny & Sons.

Resquiescat in Pace.

Arthur Gilbert Altham, son of William and Alice Altham, was born near Burnley, Lancashire, England, Aug. 19, 1879, and was brought to this country at the age of four, by his parents.

His father and uncle were contractors, and built the old Nevada high school, and the old jail that still stands.

The family settled near Eve and here Dr. Altham was raised. The family later moved to Nevada and Dr. Altham going to University of Kansas City Medical College, graduating in 1905, establishing his first practice in Metz, coming to Sheldon July 1, 1925, taking over Dr. Popplewell's practice.

He was united in marriage to Miss Pearl Baze, Dec. 12, 1922.

He is survived by his devoted wife and one sister, Mrs. Mary Leonard of Eve, two nephews, and one son.
