Madison served as a Private in Company C, 48th Alabama Infantry, CSA. In 1991, Marshall County, Alabama, a Confederate Soldier Marker was erected on his grave. He fought at the battles of Sharpsburg and Harpers Ferry. During the Sharpsburg battle, he was wounded in the shoulder by an exploded cannon shell. He filed for a pension June 8, 1887.
