He was born July 11, 1917, in Morgan County, Tenn., to the late William Riley Brock Sr. and Susie Jane Gann Brock.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters.
He served as a deputy sheriff in Morgan County in the 1930s, serving under his father while he was sheriff. He came to Oak Ridge in 1947 and began to work for the Department of Energy. Mr. Brock retired from the Y-12 Plant in Oak Ridge (Department of Energy), in 1986 as a quality assurance inspector after 38 years. He was a veteran of World War II and received the Good Conduct Medal. He also was a member of the military police and was placed at President Franklin D. Roosevelt's Hyde Park residence to guard. He was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples) since 1950.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Virginia L. Brock of Oak Ridge; and daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy Lynn Glass and husband Kenneth Dee of Oak Ridge, Vivian Sue Foster and husband Larry Steven of Lexington, Ky., and Pamela Christine Baker and husband Joe Burl Baker Jr. of Oak Ridge. Mr. Brock is also survived by eight grandchildren, Sharon Emily Glass Hudson and husband Matthew Lanson Hudson, Ginger Kathleen Glass, Dorothy Suzanne Glass Parker and husband David Stephen Parker, Melanie Sue Foster Seaver and husband William Edwin Seaver, Michelle Annette Foster Emmert and husband Robert Luke Emmert, Monica Leigh Foster Schmieder and husband Lance David Schmieder, Haleigh Elizabeth Baker and Holden Tate Baker; five great-grandchildren, Hannah Grace Hudson, Joshua Fisher Hudson, Caroline Elizabeth Hudson, Katherine Grace Seaver, and Robert Luke Emmert Jr.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Russell and the Rev. Roy Ladd officiating. Interment will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
