Hardena's son Chester [1907 -- 1930], who died while serving as a corporal in the U.S. Army, was a good friend of my mother and her three brothers. According to Chester's obituary and other sources, he had been in the U.S. Army for about five years and was taking a telephone electricians' training course at the Signal School [of the Headquarter Battery, 1st Field Artillery] at Fort Monmouth near Oceanport, New Jersey. He developed acute tonsillitis that led to complications, including pneumonia that ultimately caused his death ten days after becoming ill. During the 1920s, my mother's family, the John Emil and Anna Ekdahl family, spent a lot of time with the Anton and Hardena Peterson family. Yet, the families largely lost touch during WWII.

This 1930 US census record is a potential match for Chester E Peterson. The estimated birth year is correct and the birthplace of Minnesota suggests why we find him buried in this cemetery instead of New Jersey. This is speculative and will require additional research.
