Ida came to the De Kalb area as a teenager with her parents, Sam and Kate Bauder. There she married George Kinyon June 6, 1901. George was apparently killed in the 1st World War (that "war to end all wars" that unfortunately didn't).

Early on, she began to commute into downtown Chicago, where she worked for the Mandel Brothers Department Store, where she ultimately became one of their buyers. She was head of the lingerie dept about 1922.
