Clara Kissler
Odessa - Clara Eckhardt Kissler passed away in Odessa on Jan 18, 1998. She was 102 years old. Born March 27, 1895 to Conrad Eckhardt and Anne Margaret Goetz in Bickleton, WA. She was the fourth of seven daughters and three brothers, who died in infancy. Her parents migrated to the United States in 1891 from the Volga region of Russia and went to Hastings, NE. In 1894 the family moved to Klickitat County, WA, purchasing a farm and engaging in stock raising and farming. Their farm was 3 miles east of Bickelton, where she attended school. In 1908 the family moved to Lincoln County, 7 miles east of Odessa and farmed.
Clara married George Kissler on May 18, 1915 in Odessa. George attended college in Red Field, SD and became a minister of the Congregational churches for 37 years, serving 18 churches in 7 states and Canada, minister of the former Pilgrim Congregational Church in Wapato from 1938 to 1942. They had four children, Oletha Kissler Borgens, Roland G Kissler, Miriam Kissler Knopp, and Norman D Kissler. Clara helped her husband in his church work, playing the piano for church services and choir and teaching Sunday school.
She was very active. She loved flowers and enjoyed being out of doors in her gardens. She crocheted and made many quilts.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents, husband George Kissler, daughter Oletha Borgens, son Norman Kissler, grandson Clinton Kissler, son-in-law Adolph Borgens, six sisters, and three brothers.
Survivors are two children. Roland Kissler and wife Lillian of Moses Lake and Miriam Knopp and husband Roy of Yakima; daughter-in-law Beverly Kissler of Lincoln, NE; brothers-in-law Jack Hagelganz of Portland, OR and Henry Hopp of Odessa. She had eight grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday Jan 22, at 11:00 a.m. at the Heritage United Church of Christ, Odessa, WA. Services directed by Strate Funeral Home, Odessa, WA.
