Rosa M. Stephens - Rosa Mary Stephens, age 78 of Kearney, died January 27, 1994 at the Barry Road campus of St. Luke's Northland hospital. Services will be at 2 PM Sunday at the first Baptist Church of Kearney; burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Kearney. The family suggest contribution to the church. Mrs. Stephens was born in St.Clair County, Missouri and move to Kearney in 1947. She was a member of the church. Survivors include her husband, Charley T. Stephens, of the home; a son, Charles W. Stephens, Wichita; two daughters, Janice Reynolds, Pilot Grove, Missouri, and Joyce Murdock, of Camdenton Missouri; three sisters, Elsie Epperson, Collins, Missouri, and Ann Sheets, Dewey Oklahoma, and Ruth Hemmeway, Wheatland Missouri; two brothers, Jack Carpenter, Hollister, Missouri and Vernon Carpenter, Raymore in Cass County; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.***

Rosa was a second of nine children born to William Lovell and Mary Mae Baumgarden Carpenter. She married Charles Thomas Stephens October 7, 1937.
The 1920 and 1930 census finds Rosa living in St. Clair County Missouri.
The 1940 census shows her living in Clay County Missouri with Charles.
