Midge Brayfield Baker submitted the following article to the Christian County History book, 1 998, page 86:
"DAVIS-- Mag Docia was born in Christian County on May 11, 1882. She was the youngest chil d of Woodford and Mahala Davis. "Ma" was a very pleasant person to be around and can't remem ber her ever being mad at anyone. She loved to go visiting and I remember going to visit uncle and aint (not aunt) so and so. It wasn't until I was grown that I learned that these people weren't her relatives, most of them were relatives of my other grandmother! They were onl y friends of "Ma" but they were still aint and uncle.
If she couldn't find anyone to take her visiting, she would sit on her front porch with her b ig quilting hoop and quilt. Everyone who passed stopped to talk to her. She used to make mo st of her own dresses. One day she brought some material over to show my mother. I had pretty flowers on it and a blue ribbon running between the bunches of flowers. My mom said, "Well, it's a pretty color, but why did you buy something that has 'God Bless America' written all over it?" "Ma" just about died--she hadn't noticed that the ribbon was spelling out a message! I don't know what happened to that material, it probably ended up in a quilt.
Mag married James Robert Davis. She had three children. Edie Davis Brayfield was born in 19 01. Jesse Davis died in infancy. Eugene Franklin Davis was born in 1915.
The family moved to Springfield sometime before Jesse was born. Edie married Glenn Brayfield and Eugene "Toopy" Davis married Jewel White. They have one daughter, Juliann Davis Slone . Edie and Glenn Brayfield had six children.
"Ma" thought the world of her family. She kept close contact with her brothers and sisters . I think she would have been pleased to know that two of her descendants have played a part in the recent history of Christian County. Her granddaughter, Juliann Slone did her practice teaching at Highlandville School and her great-grandson, Davis Baker lived in Highlandville for several years and his wife Sandi Green Baker, who was born in Christian County, taught art at the Highlandville and Spokane schools."
