Arlene Burke Hoopes, 67, of Idaho Falls, a former hospital employee, died Jan. 27, 1995, at Good Samaritan Care Center following a lingering illness. She was under the care of Good Samaritan Hospice.

She was born April 12, 1927, at Idaho Falls, to Charles W. and Mary Crossley Burke. She attended elementary school in Oakland Valley School and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1942.

On Nov 12, 1947, she married Teddy Ray Hoopes in Idaho Falls. There marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple April 20, 1966. In 1952 they moved to Fairfield, Mont., where they farmed. They returned to Idaho Falls in 1963 and farmed there. In 1969 she started working as a dietary aid supervisor at the Idaho Falls LDS Hospital, where she worked until retiring in 1984. She worked for a short time at EG&G Idaho. Her husband died Aug. 5, 1986.

An active member of the LDS Church, she served in the Primary for many years and was active in temple work. For seven years, she was a volunteer with the American Red Cross and worked in Florida for seven weeks after Hurricane Andrew. Her hobbies included sewing, reading, cooking and traveling.

Survivors include her children Mrs. Jack (Brenda Lene) Shipley of Rexburg, Frances Montgomery, Mrs. Lyle (Mary Lee) Wolf, Delta Montgomery and Mark Hoopes, all of Idaho Falls, and Mrs. Paul (Pearl) Murray of Spanish Fork, Utah; three sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Ray (Nelma) McNeil of Grand Coolee, Wash., Mrs. Luther (Lorna) Morris of Ranchero, Calif., Mrs. Michael (Leora) Flynn of Salt Lake City, Darrell "Bud" Burke of Idaho Falls, Murland J. Burke of Pocatello, and Adrian "Swede" Burke of Ardmore, Okla.; 23 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. She was preceed in death by her parents and two great-granddaughters.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Osgood LDS Ward with Bishop LeRoy Reed officiating. The family will meet with friends Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Coltrin Colonial Mortuary in Idaho Falls and Wednesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Annis Little Butte Cemetery.
