Mrs. H. C. Silas, resident of Turon community in Itawamba County for 59 years, died at 2:45 a.m. on August 27, 1957 following an illness of several weeks. She was 62. Services were held at Turon Methodist Church on August 28 with burial in the Turon Cemetery. Nabors Funeral Home had charge. Mrs. Silas was born at Amory and was a member of the Turon Methodist Church.

Survivors included her husband, Hamp Cleveland Silas; a son, H. C. Silas, Jr.; four daughters, Mrs. Leamon Pierce, Mrs. Jack Beach, Mrs. Barbara Ann Leech, and Miss Betty Jean Silas, all of Turon; three brothers, Dr. Earl Elliott of Marion, Ky., Eugene and Holston Elliott of Smithville.

Pallbearers were Edward Phillips, Wm. Pearce, Hansel Leech, Bobby Pierce, Gilbert Boozer and Eugene Gray.
