Jessie Belle Childs was the daughter of Harry James and Fannie (Norman) Sheppard. She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane, WA and, on March 24, 1925, married Harrison Randolph Childs. With the Great Depression came unsolicited changes for many families. Jessie, with her 2 children, moved to her parents' home in Seattle in 1930. A single parent before it was common, Jessie began her career as of Photo Finisher and became among the first to perfect the art of "coloring" pictures.
